Disabled Veteran Parking Placard Bill Signed Into law

Indianapolis, IN, (March 19, 2018) VRI — A local lawmaker’s bill requiring the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles to issue permanent parking placards for disabled veterans has been signed into law.

Senate Enrolled Act 262 was authored by State Representative Randy Frye (R-Greensburg). It was signed Friday by Governor Eric Holcomb.

If veterans in Indiana qualify for the disabled veteran license plate, the BMV will issue a permanent handicap parking placard upon request.

“This is a simple benefit we wanted to provide to our Hoosier veterans with disabilities,” Frye said. “This will remove the need for veterans to frequently renew disabled parking permits and replaces it with an easily obtained lifetime placard veterans can carry and use from vehicle to vehicle.”

The new law goes into effect July 1, 2018.
